Glow in the Dark

Afro Nation Glow in the Dark is a flyer poster to promote an afrobeat night concert with various African afro-beat artists and popular DJs. For this project, the design literally expresses the idea of the event itself. "Glow-in-the-dark" parties are visually spectacular parties that typically include an array of bright, colorful, neon-colored objects, decorations, costumes, and face paint that glow in the dark! Under UV blacklights! The bright neon colors that shine create a more effective visual effect. For this design, I used five similar yet different font types.

Montserrat Font is a sans-serif typeface considered one of the sans-serif family that looks great and is easy to use. Designed by acclaimed graphic designer Julieta Ulanovsky, who is known for her graphic design work. The typeface is made up of her two sister families, including Subryada and Alternates. Each family contains many special characters. Ananstason Ultracondens Font and Ananstason Extra Expande are also sans-serif fonts.

Cooper Hewitt is a modern sans-serif with letters composed of modified geometric curves and arcs. Commissioned by Pentagram to further develop the Polaris Condensed typeface, Chester Jenkins created a new digital form to support the newly renovated museum. “Developing this typeface specifically for Cooper Hewitt has been very rewarding,” says Jenkins. “Rather than building on top of Polaris textures, I drew everything from scratch using existing shapes as rough guides for letter widths and master stroke weights.” These fonts are very similar to each other and are sectioned according to importance. However, these fonts give hierarchy to the color and space of this design.

The most captivating feature in this design is the blend of neon pink and green to naturally blend with the Afro Nation logo. Also, the blur club architectural background that fills the flyer’s background and design’s space gives a vibe of the party. This is an important aspect of this design tells a story and directs how the audience pictures the event.
